Tea and tradition

Kelly Simpson (left) and Sharon Dodd enter through two rows of the Southern Cross Millennium Leisure Marching Team at the East Otago Events Centre to take part in a royal high tea to celebrate the coronation of the King and Queen on Saturday.

The event was organised by community organisation The Progress of Waikouaiti Area.

Community engagement manager Sonya Billyard said about 100 people took part, enjoying high tea, coronation quiche and performances by the East Otago Orchestra, Palmerston Scottish Dancing and the Southern Cross Millennium Leisure Marching Team.

The organisation hosted two to three events for the community each year as part their community resilience strategy, helping people living alone or new to the area make connections in the local community, Mrs Billyard said.
