Overcast skies did not deter families from travelling to the Brighton Domain for the annual Brighton Gala Day on Sunday. Co-organiser Colin Weatherall said it was a misty, damp start to the day but then it moved on to a typical "fine and sunny" day in Brighton. He estimated about 9000 attendees took time out to enjoy a huge array of stalls offering a wide selection of goods from garden art to bonsai trees, as well as more than 30 food vendors offering treats including sausage sizzles, gourmet pizza and whitebait patties. There was great stage entertainment as well, including "New Zealand’s John Denver", Bevan Gardiner, and the "ultimate entertainer", Kelvin Cummings. Parents and children soaked up the festive vibe, enjoying amusement rides and Heli Otago Scenic Rides, Mr Weatherall said. Gate donations went to the Brighton Surf Lifesaving Club.
