The Nikau Harp Trio will bring the glittering sounds of harp and strings to the Regent Theatre’s Clarkson Studio this month, in the first in a series of intimate performances in the space.

Performing from 7.30pm on February 24, the trio combines the talents of harpist Helen Webby, violinist Cathy Irons and cellist Paul Mitchell in a show ranging from baroque, fantasy and romance to the pulsating latin rhythms of the tango.

Christchurch Symphony Orchestra’s principal harpist Webby is one of New Zealand’s most accomplished harpists.

Her solo album Pluck was nominated for best classical CD in the Aotearoa Music Awards.

Violinist Irons’ mastery of her instrument has been described as "jaw-dropping".

She regularly records with international artists.

Mitchell studied cello at the University of Auckland under Coral Bognuda, later winning an Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music scholarship.

Three years of advanced study at the Royal College of Music followed, with professors Christopher Bunting , William Pleeth and the Chilingirian String Quartet.

The Nikau Harp Trio’s concert is the first in a monthly series of studio sessions at the Clarkson Studio, featuring theatre and musical performances, in partnership with Arts On Tour NZ.
