The Southern Lakes team dominated the Tennis Southern quadrangular team event in Dunedin at the weekend.

Led by outstanding juniors Riki and Ben McLachlan, the Lakes men won all three ties comfortably.

Nathan Carter (Otago) came to life in the second set to push Riki McLachlan to 7-5 in the top men's single but, backed up by the former international Lan Bale and former leading national figure Mark Milburn, the Lakes team dropped only one men's rubber against Otago.

Nathan and Josh Carter showed their potential with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Bale and Riki McLachlan.

On Saturday, Lakes had beaten Southland and South Canterbury 10-2, a feat matched by Otago, but Otago could take only four rubbers against the title holder yesterday.

Libby Scott was again outstanding in beating Louise Oxnevad 6-3, 6-4 and Georgia Hume, called in as a late replacement, beat Adele Robins 6-2, 6-0 in an excellent debut at senior provincial level.

Scott dropped only two games in beating Margot Robinson (South Canterbury) and Scarlett Cuthill (Southland) in the top singles on Saturday.

No 1 man Nathan Carter showed his class in beating Mexican coach Hector Garcia (South Canterbury) 6-4, 6-2.

He later combined with Dwayne Cleugh to beat Garcia and Ryan Ammar 6-0, 6-0.

Amy Rapley, former No 1 for Otago, made a return after a back injury and dropped only three games in beating Paige Hubber (Southland) and Greer Lane (South Canterbury).

Southern Lakes B beat Otago B, Southland B and North Otago A to win the second division.
