Impressive wins for Andy Bay Sharks, Balmacewen 1

Andy Bay Sharks continued their good form in the women’s club competition, winning 4-0 against Balmacewen.

At top singles, Jenna Bowie (Andy Bay sharks) clinched a close first set against Billie Fraser before pulling away 6-3, 6-0.

The Andy Bay Sharks’ top doubles pairing of Mackenzie and Jordan Phillips were clinical in their performance as they beat Amy Owen and Tessa Richardson 6-2, 6-1.

Phillips then sealed the tie with a 6-4 6-1 win over Tessa Richardson.

The last doubles saw Ange Fitzgerald and Jenna Bowie take on Fraser/Owen, with the former winning 6-2, 6-1.

In the other women’s tie between Andy Bay Dolphins and Mornington-Roslyn was won by the former through default.

On the men’s side, Balmacewen 1 got their season up and running with an impressive win over Andy Bay Smith.

At No 1 for Balmacewen 1, Hugo Barsby raced out of the blocks against Rafferty McIntosh, taking the first set without dropping a game.

The second set was much closer as McIntosh was able to find his rhythm, taking the second set to a tiebreak. Barsby, though, was able to stay solid in crucial points, winning the tiebreak and the match 6-0, 7-6( 3).

The first doubles then saw the crafty duo of Nick Cutfield/Gerard Farrell (Balmacewen 1) take on Marshall McChlery/Danny Fridberg. With sharp net play, the former pairing was able to take the match 6-2, 6-2.

At No 2 singles, it seemed like everything was going Balamcewen 1’s way as Cutfield raced through the first set 6-1 against McChlery. However, the latter started to read the changes of pace and clawed his way back, taking the match 1-6, 6-4, 10-8.

With Cutfield taking a set, the tie was sown up and Balmacewen 1 would eventually win 3-1 on matches.

The last men’s tie saw Balmacewen 2 take on Andy Bay Campbell.

Continuing his good form, Albert Hailes gave Balmacewen 2 an early lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Matthew Campbell.

However, Andy Bay Campbell brought in Gavin Mockford to win both doubles matches.

The final match saw Sergei Sanin take on Matthew Nolan, with the former winning 6-0, 2-6, 10-4, giving Andy Bay Campbell a 3-1 win.
