Highlanders loose forward Adam Thomson is not quite ready to pull the curtain down on his 2011 season.

Thomson, who was part of the All Black World Cup-winning squad last month, will take to the field next week as part of a star-studded Barbarians side to play the Wallabies at Twickenham.

Thomson (29) is one of six New Zealanders in the Barbarians squad to play the Australians, who are undertaking a short tour of the United Kingdom.

The Wallabies will also play Wales on their tour.

Thomson had limited game time at the World Cup, playing against Japan and France but then being lowered by injury.

He damaged his ankle in the final minutes against France in the pool match and that led to him being out of the side for three weeks. He was named on the bench in the final against France but was one of two reserves - Ben Franks was the other - who did not make it on to the field in the 80 minutes.

Thomson will be joined in the Barbarians squad by fellow New Zealanders Isaia Toeava, Sonny Bill Williams, Robbie Fruean, Keven Mealamu and Jerome Kaino. Thomson is due back with the Highlanders on January 9.

Other players in the Barbarians squad include South Africans Bryan Habana and Victor Matfield and former Wallabies captain Stirling Mortlock.

The Barbarians are being coached by Graham Henry and Steve Hansen.
