The longest continuous interschool match in the country will have a new feature when it is played out tomorrow.

The Waitaki Boys' High School First XV will wear a special jersey to mark the 130th anniversary interschool between its first XV and Timaru Boys' High School First XV.

The jersey, which was the idea of school rector Paul Jackson, is a one-off and the members of the side who wear it will be lucky enough to keep them.

The jersey was designed by Waitaki Boys' High School old boy and Otago player Peter Breen, of Leslie Rugby.

Waitaki Boys has a slightly better record over the years: 68 wins to Timaru's 64, with 10 draws.

Timaru though has won the past three games, and will go into tomorrow's game as the favourite.

Waitaki Boys High School was founded in 1883 and it won the first match against Timaru.

From 1898-1912 Waitaki won 17 of 18 games and kept Timaru scoreless from 1903-1912.

The fixture is the longest continuous match in New Zealand and was played during both world wars.

The match will kick off at Milner Park in Oamaru, starting at 12.45pm.
