Lively hooker Masiu Akavola scored two second-half tries and played a key role in Zingari-Richmond's last-gasp 20-19 win over Alhambra-Union at Montecillo.
The Zingari forwards were a tight group and difficult to stop when they attacked inside the 22m.
All four tries came after lineouts inside the Alhambra-Union 22m, when the pack drove to the line after two phases.
Akavola was nippy and had the speed to evade tackles. The other two tries were scored by honest No 8 Chris Bell, who used his strength to drive over the line.
Towering lock Tom Rowe won a monopoly of clean lineout ball.
Another key player for Zingari was halfback Fumiaki Tanaka who cleared the ball quickly and was dangerous when he ran the short side.
Ben Kent was solid in the midfield and his strong tackling made it difficult for Alhambra-Union to break down the centre.
The best Alhambra-Union player was No 8 Matt Kissick who did the hard work in the tight and won his own lineout ball.
First five-eighth Peter Breen kicked with efficiency and hooker Ben Pereira was lively around the paddock. But it was a day when little went right for the Maroons.
Zingari-Richmond 20 (Chris Bell 2, Masiu Akavola 2 tries), Alhambra-Union 19 (Chris Guild try; Peter Breen con, 4 pen).
Halftime: Alhambra-Union 13-5.
