Chance for Dunedin fans to view World Cup

The trophy every rugby player wants to get their hands on will be in Dunedin next week.

The World Cup, or to give it its proper name, the William Webb Ellis Cup, will be in the city on Friday week as it goes on a mini tour around the country.

It will be on display at the Dunedin Art Gallery from 6.30am to 9am as part of a promotion with the Breakfast television programme.

Dunedin residents will be urged to view the trophy dressed as fans of their second-favourite team, and will also get a chance to have a photo taken with the trophy.

There will be two Dunedin venue packs to be won by those judged to be the best-dressed fans.

The venue packs have tickets for all three games in Dunedin.

The trophy will also be in Auckland, Rotorua, Taranaki and Christchurch.

All dressed-up fans will go into a country-wide draw, which will be carried out in Dunedin, to win two tickets to next year's World Cup final.

Rugby New Zealand 2011 Ltd chief executive Martin Snedden will make the draw in Dunedin on Friday week.

He will also meet officials, and visit the Forsyth Barr stadium site.

Snedden will also speak at a luncheon, and at night will be the guest speaker at the Otago Sports Awards.
