There is a reason

Micahel Coleman, the Matamata jockey, is riding at Awapuni in preference to Te Awamutu tomorrow to maintain his association with the 2yr-old Snow Reason.

"His last-start third in a stakes race was a good effort," Coleman said.

Coleman has ridden Snow Reason in his two starts for a first-up win at Ellerslie in April and a third to Testa Secret and Elusive Red in the Castletown Stakes at Foxton.

The No Excuse Needed gelding is trained at Cambridge by Ralph Manning.

Coleman has gained the mount on Our Destiny in the restricted open 2100m. Our Destiny was a last-start winner over 2200m at Ellerslie in the hands of apprentice Aimee Taylor. Allowances cannot be claimed in the race tomorrow.

Our Destiny, trained at Hastings by Corinna McDougal, has won five races from 2000 to 2200m. The Le Destin gelding has been ridden in two of his wins by Jonathan Riddell, who is on holiday and due back riding next Thursday.

Coleman is also riding Montepulciano (race 10). Keil Collins, who has ridden Montepulciano in recent starts, has taken the mount on Go Thunder, a last-start winner at Otaki.

• Craig Grylls has gained the ride on favoured runner Hurricane Mickey in the Te Awamutu Cup tomorrow.

Grylls is the replacement for Coleman, who is riding at Awapuni. Hurricane Mickey has performed well on heavy tracks. He was a winner of 1560m at Rotorua three starts back and he ran Don Dixit to a neck at Tauranga at his last start on June 25.

The field is headed by Cent Per Cent with 59kg. He won the race last year with 4.5kg less.

Michelle Wenn has retained the mount.

Danz Star has 1kg more than he carried to win the race in 2009. Mark Sweeney, who won the race on Red D'Mon in 1996, is aboard Ourforeignminister, who is on the minimum with 54kg.

• The Australian jockey Zac Purton has been unsuccessful in an appeal over a $A40,000 fine for failing to report an approach from a Hong Kong bettor, AAP reports.

Purton had his appeal dismissed on Monday by the Hong Kong Jockey Club. He appealed the severity of the fine.
