Riverton Racing Club president Trevor Brown said he was pleased with how the day had shaped up.
"Racing’s been great; [the] local horses have been going extremely well, which is a real plus, so it’s just been quite a nice festival all day."
He believed the crowd turnout was on par with other years.
"It’s really weather-dependant so it has been in our favour — especially the track.
"Because if you haven’t got a good track and good horse numbers, people don’t turn up."
"I don’t think we could’ve got a track better than what we’ve got it today.
"It’s ideal for all horses. From the rail right out wide, it doesn’t matter where you are ... any horse from the back or anywhere can win at this track."
He believed holidaymakers in the seaside town had also boosted the day’s events.
The last two races of the day were Otago Daily Times Southern Mile Series qualifiers.
There were 33 nominations for the qualifier which New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing split in two to prevent horses missing out in their quest to qualify for the series final at Wingatui on March 1.
