A rehandicap of 2.5kg for his win in the Waikouaiti Cup on Sunday may not deter Woodyeva in the Clare Memorial Cup at Omakau today.
Woodyeva, who has been elevated to 58.5kg, is a smart galloper in the stable of John and Karen Parsons. He won the Queenstown Cup at Cromwell in November.
Kylie Williams is an able replacement as rider for Shankar Muniandy, who is required for Inferno.
Williams won the Berkley Stud Stakes and Timaru Cup last week on Final Touch for the Parsons stable.
Inferno won the Clare Cup last year and she should be ready to shine over 2000m after three starts at shorter distances in a fresh campaign. Owner and trainer Brian Anderton is aiming her at the Wellington Cup.
Trainer Michael Pitman, who won seven races at Waikouaiti on Sunday, said he would start three horses in the Clare Cup - Fellini, Sun Valley and Our Mona Lisa. Fellini won the Kurow Cup with Lisa Allpress the rider. Jamie Bullard has the mount today. Sun Valley has not received a rehandicap for her win at Waikouaiti. She also won at the Timaru meeting.
Venetian Raider, Shutup Cat and Aqualine are other Waikouaiti winners for the Pitman stable set to back up today.
Venetian Raider has been rehandicapped 2kg to 57kg, Shutup Cat 2kg to 60.5kg and Aqualine 2kg to 60.5kg.
Pitman said yesterday he was endeavouring to contact the owners of So Elusive to advise he did not favour starting the mare today. She won in dashing style at Waikouaiti and has the Telegraph Handicap at Trentham as her mission.
