Ian Munro, an owner-trainer for 28 years, won two races in a day for the first time at Forbury Park yesterday.

Munro, an Otematata farmer, won with Rostriever View and Midland Maddy.

Both horses were driven by Brent Barclay, who won later in the day with Benhar Brat.

Munro races Rostriever View with his brothers John and Ronnie, who also work the farm.

His mother, Lexie, was in the ownership of Rostriever View until she died last year.

Rostriever View, who ran a useful 1.58.2 mile rate for the 1700m (mobile), is a 4yr-old mare by Washington VC out of Rostriever Dawn, whose other two foals, Rostriever Ornum and Rostriever Run, have won.

Rostriever Dawn is by Holmes Hanover from Rostriever Glow, a half-sister by Nero's B B to Rostriever Hanover, who won 17 races and $342,000 for Ian and his mother.

Ian prepared Rostriever Hanover for his first win at Oamaru in 1986 then passed the gelding to Huntingdon trainer Patrick O'Reilly.

Midland Maddy, a half-sister by Badlands Hanover to Hayton Son (four wins), is raced by Munro's wife, Cheryl, and her son, Greg Smith, of Chelsea (England).

"I have just resurfaced my track with crusher dust at a cost of $2500 so the winning stakes will come in handy," Munro said.

Avalon Sunset made an immediate winning return for the Everydays A Good Day syndicate yesterday.

The syndicate, comprising Gerald Cayford, his sons Chris and Jason, Brian Bennett, Gary Wright and Neil Smith, leased the 6yr-old five weeks ago with a right of purchase from Laurie Fleming, of Opunake, and transferred him to Waimumu trainer Billy Heads.

Avalon Sunset won two races, both at Alexandra Park, when trained by Derek Balle.

The Sundon gelding had not won for close on two years.

Jaspers Blue Jean had his first win for Forbury Park trainer Eion Latimer yesterday.

Latimer took over Jaspers Blue Jean early in May after the gelding had won twice for Ian Cameron.
