Stackhouse works alongside Hazlett at the stable of Pam Gerard. He had his first win over hurdles on Clarence at Wanganui last Thursday. Clarence, who won a maiden hurdles by nine and a-half lengths, is trained by Mark Oulaghan, who prepares Yourtheman.
Stackhouse also finished second over hurdles on the Oulaghan-trained Electronic Hoss at Wanganui, when having his first ride for that stable.
Stackhouse, who turned 20 the next day, is the leading South Island apprentice this season with 27 wins.
His rides at Oamaru today include last-start winner, Georgia's Way and in-form runners, Kassia and Themadmarchhare (hurdles).
Yourtheman won a maiden steeplechase at Wanganui on May 13 at his fifth start over country. He was brought down at the second fence in the Waikato Hurdles at his next start. Hazlett broke his ankle in the fall. He has had two screws inserted in the ankle.
"Just when I can resume riding will depend on the healing process," he said last night.
Hazlett won the 2006 New Zealand Grand National Hurdles and 2008 Waikato Hurdles on Yourtheman.
Danz A Rook, a newcomer to the Gerard stable, will contest the Waimate Cup on Sunday providing the track is reasonable.
Danz A Rook, the winner of five races for Winton owner-trainer, Val Christophers, has won twice at Riverton in her last three starts.
• Opie Bosson is within two wins from claiming the lead in the New Zealand jockeys' premiership after gaining four wins at Matamata yesterday, NZPA reports.
Bosson had three outright wins, while his mount One Cool Family dead-heated the last race with Dangereux.
A dead-heat counts as a full win in New Zealand racing.
James McDonald leads the premiership with 145 wins, one clear of Bosson, but is on a working holiday in Ireland and is not expected back before the season ends on July 31.
