Racing: Record run for Otago-bred mare

Dealornodeal, bred by Wendy Blakie, of Oturehua, set a mile time trial trotting record for Australia and New Zealand when she recorded 1.55.5 at Bendigo on Sunday.

Her time lowered the record of 1.55.6 set by Scotch Notch at Moonee Valley in 1985. The only faster mile by a trotter in NZ and Australia is the 1.54.3 by Sundons Gift in a race at Menangle in 2010.

Dealornodeal is a 5yr-old mare by Dream Vacation from Princess Della, owned by Graeme Rogerson, his son Garry and Bruce Honeybone, of Auckland. She was sent to Bendigo trainer Chris Lang five weeks ago after winning seven races from the Rogerson stable at Tuhikaramea.

Lang is a son of Graeme Lang, who trained and drove Scotch Notch.

"She just couldn't go the Auckland way round," Graeme Rogerson said. Dealornodeal was bought by Rogerson for $32,500 at the 2008 premier yearling sale.

Dealornodeal is the fifth foal of Princess Della, the dam of Kyvalley Mac (a listed race winner in Victoria), Just A Cracker (11 wins) and Just Incredible (NZ Trotting Stakes).

Mrs Blakie has a filly by Sundon from Princess Della entered for the premier yearling sale next month.

Princess Della, a trotter, is one of two winners left by her sire, Last Lord (by Lordship) from 30 foals. The other winner was a pacer.

• The Fiery Ginga is to continue racing in Australia for at least another month.

He is off 20m in a race at Menangle on Friday night.

The Fiery Ginga was transferred to the Wallan (Victoria) trainer Ruth Shinn with the return to East Taieri of his trainer and part-owner, Alan Clark. Noel Shinn has the drive on Friday. The Fiery Ginga will be prepared for further racing in Sydney by Paul Fitzpatrick.

The Fiery Ginga blotted his copybook when he left stride in the early stage of the Dullard Cup at Melton last Friday.

"He reacted badly to the rein pricker," Fiona Clark said. "Alan had been working him without it during the week, trying to be kind.

He was very disappointed, as he felt the horse was spot on."

His rivals on Friday night will include Im Brownie, who won over a mile in 1.57.6 at Menangle last Friday. It was his fourth win on end since he joined the Menangle stable of David Thorn in December. Im Brownie won nine races in NZ as Brownie.

Thorn also has former NZ trotters Prince Harry and Makarewa Sun in the race. Prince Harry was a first-up winner at Menangle this month and he finished second to Im Brownie last week.
