Racing: NZ-bred jumpers prevail

The New Zealand-bred It's A Dud won the $A166,000 Great Eastern Steeplechase at Oakbank yesterday.

It's A Dud was bred by the late G.A.Pollard. The 7yr-old is by Istidaad and the first foal of Royal Annie, a mare by Blues Traveller.

It's A Dud changed hands for $31,000 at the 2004 Festival Yearling Sale at Karaka.

It's A Dud is trained by former jockey Patrick Payne, who won the Adelaide Cup last month with Capecover. Payne won the 2002 W.S.Cox Plate on Northerly.

It's A Dud was ridden by Steven Pateman, who won the race on Conzeal in 2008.

Art Success, who did his early racing in Otago and Southland, won the $A100,000 hurdle race at Oakbank yesterday. Art Success was trained for his five starts as a 3yr-old by Brian Ridley and Brendon Black at Winton.

The Pentire-Zabelette gelding had second placings over 2000m and 2200m at Omakau and Trentham.

Art Success changed stables and subsequently won the 2006 Brisbane Cup and 2000 Grafton Cup when trained by John Collins.

Art Success is now trained by Ciaron Maher. He ran third over hurdles at Oakbank on Saturday in his other start as a jumper.

• Andrew Calder has been suspended from Sunday until May 1 for improper riding.

The Judicial Control Authority representatives found Calder, riding Spirit Of Sandford, had intentionally made contact with Dane Ruler (Jason Waddell) between the 1300m and 1000m in a race at Tauranga on March 27. Both horses became unbalanced.

Maija Vance was suspended from Sunday until midnight on April 21 for careless riding at Ellerslie on Saturday.

Rosie Myers is out until midnight on Saturday for careless riding at New Plymouth on Thursday.

Samantha Collett was fined $350 at Awapuni on Saturday for making a celebratory gesture short of the winning post on Sir Slick.

Jamie Bates was fined $200 at Riverton yesterday for failing to make his contracted riding weight for Tap `N' Gold (race 3).
