Dave Isherwood, the Methven owner-trainer, broke a nine-year drought when Sea Spray Notch won a maiden trot at Forbury Park last night.

Isherwood, who races few horses, had his previous win with Sea Spray Padero at Ashburton in February 2001.

Sea Spray Notch is a 5yr-old mare by Brylin Boyz from Sea Spray Invader (Armbro Invasion-Sea Spray Hanover), an unraced sister to Sea Spray Padero.

Isherwood races Sea Spray Notch with Garry Eddington, of Methven. They bred the gelding.

Sea Spray Notch was driven by Carl Markham, who drove Sea Spray Padero. Markham is married to Isherwood's daughter, Lynn.

Markham drove the Isherwood-trained Santa Catarina in her six wins in the 1990s. Santa Catarina was raced by Isherwood and his daughter.

Santa Catarina left Lively Kitten, winner of four races for the same owners when trained by Markham. Lively Kitten is now at stud.

Dorothy Lopez and Liz Winter were good winners trained by Isherwood.

"I got to know Carl when he was going to school in Dunedin and he used to hop over the back fence at Forbury Park to help out the visiting trainers," Isherwood recalled.

• Yokozuna recorded his sixth win in eight starts over the past two months.

"He just jogged it. It is probably his easiest win," Graeme Anderson, his co-trainer, said.

Anderson will keep Yokozuna in work but he is undecided about the racing programme.

"My immediate thoughts were the Kurow Cup (August 8) but I will go home and think about it," he said.

• Super Sassy, who was given to Forbury Park trainer Daryl Trainor a fortnight ago, quit maiden ranks last night.

The transfer has to be completed but the mare will enter the ownership of Trainor and his wife, Anne. Their son, Jack, drove Super Sassy to win a trial last Monday.

The 4yr-old mare had recorded seven minor placings in 36 starts for Martin Denton (trainer) and Garry Clarke.

• Dying To Rule was claimed for $10,000 and Shades Of Success for $6000 last night. Dying To Rule was claimed by Graham Hall, of Kaiapoi, who will train the 5yr-old, who ran third last night.

Shades Of Success will join the Foxton stable of Peter Scaife after being claimed by Rumiko Yano, of West Melton.

• Franco Quarry, who was purchased a week ago, easily won a maiden race last night. He was bought by Kerry Read, of Hinds, Murray Keir, Barry Smith and Neville Prendergast, all of Ashburton from Spreydon Lodge.

The 3yr-old, who finished sixth in his other start in January was transferred from Steven McRae to Leeston trainers Terry and Glenys Chmiel.

Franco Quarry is a replacement for Steph's Caesar, who was sold to Australia last month by the same owners. Steph's Caesar won six races from the Chmiel stable.

• Another Moment, who has not raced since May 2009, is now trained by Michelle Wallis at Waiuku.

The rising 8yr-old Sundon-Nakura gelding won seven races when trained by Tim Butt and Phil Anderson.
