"I think she has just come right with maturity," Larmer said of the 6yr-old daughter of O'Reilly and Berserk.
Larmer was given Lucy Star as a 4yr-old after she had recorded one minor placing in six starts for Ryal Bush breeders Ben and Karen Calder from the stable of John and Karen Parsons.
Her half-brother, Sharp Prick, won 11 races including six over hurdles from the same stable.
Larmer turned her out at White Robe Lodge, North Taieri and Pear Tree Farm, Waimate and she did not resume racing until 13 months later.
He took his parents, Pat and Anne Larmer, Aimee Kaio, Jason Harrison (all from Bluff) and Matt Keane, of Dunedin, into the ownership to race the mare.
Lucy Star was put into work with Barrie and Nikki Blatch at Tapanui and cleared maiden ranks at her fourth start for her new owners in March last year.
She was subsequently transferred to Wayne Stevens, the manager of the Wingatui racecourse.
"Wayne had lost the services of Halobelle and he was short of a horse to gallop with other members of his team," Larmer said.
Larmer is in the ownership of Halobelle, winner of eight races including the 2007 Gore Guineas and Eclipse Stakes at Wingatui last year.
Halobelle has not raced since November 3 when she bled in a race at Wingatui.
She has since had an operation for a twisted bowel.
Lucy Star won at Gore last month for Stevens who is keen to try her over 1600m and further.
Her immediate target is the $25,000 rating 75 1400m race at Cromwell on March 7.
