Monkey King is poised to go one better than last year in the New Brighton Cup free-for-all at Addington tonight.
Monkey King ran second to Stunin Cullen fresh up in the race last year.
Monkey King resumed racing with an impressive win the Hannon Memorial Free-For-All at Oamaru on September 18.
The 9yr-old may have a fitness edge over well-performed horses resuming tonight - Auckland Reactor, Smiling Shard and Franco Emirate.
Second Wind, runner-up in the Hannon and Rangataua Ray, who finished third, should also be to the fore tonight.
• Ardghal, who won twice as a 2yr-old, is on target to resume racing at Invercargill today after a trial win there nine days ago.
Ardghal, trained at Winton by Roger and Katrina Price, won the Sires' Stakes Silver at Addington and a 2yr-old race at Invercargill.
Trainer Hamish Hunter has top prospects today in Canardly Lover, Devil May Care and Franco Ledger.
Canardly Lover (race 4) won impressively at Winton on September 9. Devil May Care (race 5) won against older horses at Washdyke as a 2yr-old last season and he finished fourth in the Welcome Stakes.
Franco Ledger won seven times including a Sires' Stakes heat at Forbury Park from 12 starts as a 3yr-old last season.
• Peter Gillespie and Colin Keen have been nominated for the position of president of the Forbury Park Trotting Club.
Bruce Trainor was the only nomination for vice-president.
Messrs Gillespie and Keen are both members of the committee.
Alan Clyma, the president, was not eligible for re-election after serving a three-year term.
Gillespie, a Mosgiel veterinarian, was recently appointed club representative to the board of management. He replaced Don Cuttance. John Henderson has also been appointed to the board, replacing the late Peter Fraser.
Gillespie was formerly a committee member of the Otago Racing Club.
