The Fiery Ginga arrived at the Papakura stable of Richard Brosnan eight days ago after travelling from East Taieri. He was joined the next day by trainer-driver Alan Clark.
"He is good. I have been able to fast work him three times," Clark said.
The Fiery Ginga has drawn one on Saturday night. "I was hoping he would draw handy," Clark said.
The Fiery Ginga finished second to Clover Don over a mile at Methven at his last start following a win at Addington.
I Can Doosit and Stylish Monarch are among his rivals on Saturday night.
I Can Doosit won the Lyell Creek Stakes at Alexandra Park at his last start.
Stylish Monarch won the Trotters' Mile in 2008 and last year.
The Murray Tapper-trained Stylish Monarch is in the care of Brosnan, who will drive him on Saturday night in the absence of regular driver Ricky May. Brosnan drove Stylish Monarch in his win last year.
The Fiery Ginga finished seventh in the Harness Jewels at Cambridge as a 3yr-old last year.
Clark plans to start The Fiery Ginga in the $80,000 National Trot, a group one 2700m free-for-all at Alexandra Park on Saturday week.
"If he performs well in his races he will be off to Melbourne for the Interdominion. He needs to improve his ranking," Clark said.
• Here We Go Again has been scratched from a heat of the Sires' Stakes Fillies Championship tomorrow night but trainer Jamie Gameson is confident she will be on hand for the $170,000 Final on Saturday week.
"She was supposed to have come out at acceptance time. She has had a couple of hiccups. She has not been eating and her blood is not quite right," Gameson said.
"I would have liked to have given her the race this week but she is already in the final." The daughter of Mach Three finished second to Alchemist in a heat of the series at Addington.
Here We Go Again caused a major upset winning the group two Ladyship Stakes on December 9 for Motukarara owners David Miller and Graeme Trist, of West Melton. They raced her dam, Kym's Girl, winner of the 2001 New Zealand Cup and New Zealand Standardbred Breeders' Stakes (twice). They raced Kym's Girl with Bill Marra and bought out his share to breed from Kym's Girl.
Here We Go Again is her third foal. She began breeding in 2001 but did not conceive in three years from 2004. She produced a filly by Lis Mara last month and she has been served by Real Desire.
• David Schofield, the Auckland greyhound trainer, has been fined $3000 and ordered to pay $500 costs after his dog, Have A Yap, tested positive to a prohibited substance.
The penalty was imposed by the Judicial Control Authority.
Have A Yap tested positive to amphetamine from a sample taken before he raced at Christchurch on September 22. Have A Yap finished last. He had won his previous 12 starts.
Schofield, who travelled to Christchurch with Have A Yap, denied giving his dog amphetamine, which increases wakefulness and focus.
The JCA representatives hearing the charge were satisfied there was no intent by Schofield to gain an advantage by the administration of a prohibited substance.
