Racing: Jewels beckon Motu Young Jacob

Motu Young Jacob qualified for the 4yr-old trotter section of the Harness Jewels as the result of his win at Oamaru on Sunday.

"He will leave on Thursday. He was going to Auckland anyway," Tony Barron, his Makarewa trainer and part-owner, said.

Barron is also taking Magnum Opus, Danica Patrick and Hanover Patch north.

Magnum Opus was a winner at Alexandra Park when campaigned there during last winter.

Barron also won races with Falcon's Medley (two), Winnies Central (two) and Deadly Tana and some $46,000 in stakes during his northern campaign last year.

Falcon's Medley was then sold to Australia.

Heather Castleton has been withdrawn from the 2yr-old trotter section, allowing Madisonz Luck to enter the field.

Madisonz Luck, a filly in the Cambridge stable of Sean McCaffrey, won at Alexandra Park on April 23 at her only start.

• Harness Racing New Zealand handicapper Darrin Williams said he was delighted with the 13 nominations for a claiming race at Forbury Park on Friday night, the first in a series of four races during the winter.

The first race is for horses with a claiming price up to $5000.

The second race has a price up to $6000 and the final race is up to $10,000.

Partyboysimon, a winner at Addington last Tuesday, has a price tag of $5000 on Friday night.

He is engaged at Addington today.
