Harley Earl recorded a smart performance to win at the Addington trials yesterday.

Harley Earl won over the 1950m (mobile) in 2.24.6 (a 1.59.3 mile rate), the last 800 in 57 and the final 400 in 28.2.

Harley Earl has been freshened since his last-start third to Tintin In America and Still Coughin in the 4yr-old section of the Harness Jewels five weeks ago.

Rider On The Storm continued his preparation aimed at the New Zealand Cup when he won his third trial on end yesterday.

Rider On The Storm (30m) beat Cullen's Creek (20m) by a length and three-quarters in a moderate 3.25.4 for the 2600m, the last 800 in 58.3, the final 400 in 28.2.

Cullen's Creek has not raced since he won the Central Otago Cup on January 2.

Caesar's Cloud will continue his engagement at Addington tomorrow night after being sold to Perth.

The 4yr-old Julius Caesar-Cumulus gelding trained by John McDermott won at Addington last month for owners Barrie Barber (the breeder) and Andrew Faulks.

Cumulus is a half-brother to Capitol V and Our Cloudy Dawn, who are racing in Perth.

Capitol V has won 18 raes and Our Cloudy Dawn, eight.

Both are by Washington VC.

Ricky May will take the drive on About Ambition tomorrow night in the absence of Dexter Dunn, who is on holiday.

About Ambition followed up a win in the Marlborough Winter Cup with a second to Rangataua Ray at Rangiora.

Anthony Butt will replace Dunn on Smiling Shard in the non-tote 3yr-old qualifying pace for the Australasian Breeders' Crown.

He has one opponent, Franco Jamar.

Malcolm Holmes has tendered his resignation as chief executive of New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing, effective December 9.

He said he would return to Australia.

He was formerly the CEO of the Brisbane Turf Club.
