Craig Ferguson and Nicola Davies had their first wins as licence-holders last night at the Forbury Park Trotting Club meeting.

Ferguson (17) drove Lucy Legacy in an $8000 free-for-all. Ferguson rated Lucy Legacy to perfection in front and she held off the favourite, Yokozuna, by half a length. It was her seventh win.

Ferguson was licenced as a junior driver two weeks ago and Lucy Legacy was his third drive during that time. He had six race drives last season when there were insufficient juniors.

He has worked full-time since December for Wyndham trainer Brendon McLellan, who prepares Lucy Legacy. He had worked part-time for the stable.

Ferguson is a son of Russell Ferguson, of Wyndham, who has a training licence.

Davies (26), of West Melton, trained the winner, Oscar Royce, in partnership with her father, Wes. She is in her third season as a trainer with her father, who races Oscar Royce through his company, Silverdale West Melton Ltd.

He also races Move Over, the winner of six races from the stable of Jamie Gameson. Move Over was spelled in May to recover from a viral infection. He has been back in work for three months.

Artique had his third win in six starts with a game performance last night.

"He is not big but he is game," said Amber Hoffman, his co-trainer.

• Artique led over the last 1200m and won by half a length after being challenged by Habana early in the run home.

The 5yr-old Artique, who began racing 10 months ago, is raced by his other co-trainer, Graeme Anderson, Vaughan Johnson, of Brighton and Mike Cornelissen, of Mosgiel. Mr Johnson is a bowling coach for the New Zealand cricket team.

Crusader Command broke a losing streak of 31 starts over the past 18 months with his win last night.

It was his fourth win at Forbury Park for Oamaru owner Gary Young and Waikouaiti trainer Andrew Faulks.

• Crusader Command has been driven in his wins by Blair Orange, who drove three winners last night. He also won with the Faulks-trained Life's Decision.

Roxburgh trainers Geoff and Judy Knight won with their only runner last night - Tawnie Jaccka. The Knights have 20 horses in work, their biggest team.

Trojan, the winner of seven races, had his first hoppled work yesterday in a fresh preparation.

True Jaccka is proving a useful producer for Riversdale breeders Charlie and Ailsa Smaill.

Four of her first five foals have won races, with her most recent winner Tawnie Jaccka. The OK Bye mare is also the dam of Jaccka Turbo, who won five races in New Zealand and took a record of 1.52.2 in the United States.
