"He just didn't fire so he can go out for three months," Alan Clark, the East Taieri trainer and owner of The Fiery Ginga, said.
Clark announced his decision after The Fiery Ginga finished second to the one-win trotter Winfield Glow in a trial at Forbury Park yesterday.
The Fiery Ginga started from 20m over 2200m, trailed in third slot and ran pacemaker Winfield Glow to a head in slushy conditions.
"I had him in the trial hoping that he would spark up. He just hasn't been the same since the crash. I feel it is a mind thing."
The Fiery Ginga was in the truck that was side-swiped and left on its side in a collision with another vehicle near Glenavy on April 9.
A person in the other vehicle died.
The Fiery Ginga has been unplaced in three subsequent starts.
He began his 3yr-old campaign with a win at Gore on November 1 and also won races at Addington, Forbury Park, Ascot Park (two) and Winton (two), all against older horses.
He set New Zealand records for his age at Addington (2.25.6 for 1950m) and Ascot Park (3.30.6 for 2700m).
A notable placing for the CR Commando gelding was a third to Shezoneoftheboyz and Kahdon in the New Zealand Trotting Derby.
The Fiery Ginga also raced 18 times as a 2yr-old for for seven wins, eight placings and $71,679 in stakes.
Stuart Cullen qualified 2.6sec inside the required time when he led throughout his test at Forbury Park yesterday.
He is a 3yr-old by Christian Cullen-Lynne Falcon trained by Graeme Anderson and Amber Hoffman.
Trainer Ali Malcolmson won heats with Space Ace, VC Ezy, Hombre and Oh Whatafella.
