Relampago was a game winner of the Tapanui Cup at Gore yesterday when his trainers Ben and Sally Gordon produced the first three placegetters in the race.
Relampago won by a length and a-quarter from Bonbonniere with three lengths to City Of Choice.
The trifecta was a first for the trainers.
Apprentice Izuan Khairil took Relampago to the front near the 1000m and the Yamanin Vital 7yr-old fought back after being headed in the run home.
"We were very pleased with his effort.
He will now go to the Clare Cup at Omakau and, all going well, the Wellington Cup" Sally Gordon said.
Relampago, winner of the Invercargill Cup the past two years, is raced by breeders Bill and Allison Hazlett, of Waianawa, Graeme Hill, of Arrowtown and Colin Ashby, of Cromwell.
He races in the colours of white with emerald green sleeves of Hazlett's late father, Bill Hazlett, who owned and trained Montrose to win the 1956 Tapanui Cup.
River Haze, winner of her last two starts for the Gordon stable, has her next start in the $13,000 race for 3 and 4yr-olds over 1800m at the Kurow meeting on Wednesday week.
The 4yr-old mare has won over 1400m at Wingatui and 1600m at Invercargill.
Whitestripe had her second win in six starts when she won by seven lengths yesterday.
The 5yr-old mare is trained at Riverton by breeder Rebecca Black, the former jockey, who races Whitestripe with Lance and June Strong, of Invercargill.
Whitestripe is by My Halo from Hinetaumai, an Imperial Guard mare who won races at Cromwell and Invercargill in 1994 when trained by Mike Skerrett.
Whitestripe is the only registered progeny of Hinetaumai.
