Butcher is bypassing his home-based meeting at Alexandra Park.
"I did not have too many drives at Auckland so I am better off going south," he said.
Scaife, who has his team quartered at Waikouaiti, had his sixth win on the Otago winter circuit when El Magic was successful at Oamaru on Sunday.
El Magic has also won two heats of the Golden Girls series at Forbury Park for Foxton owner Natasha Baird. El Magic is in the $10,000 final there on Friday night.
Scaife has also won at Forbury Park with Mister Dann (twice) and Miracle Mach.
Butcher, the leading junior driver, has been the successful driver in five of the six wins with Dexter Dunn partnering El Magic at Oamaru.
Miracle Mach is in the $10,000 final of the claiming series.
Mister Dann is part-owned by Gerard Cayford, of Dunedin, who sponsored Scaife on his Otago campaign through Acme Metal and Drum Ltd. Cayford shares the ownership with Wayne and Connie Stewart, of Masterton and brothers Murray and Robin Moon, of Tauranga.
They bought Mister Dann six weeks ago, on the advice of Scaife. A 6yr-old by the little known sire, Danny B (a son of Albatross), Mister Dann had won a race for Lincoln breeder Gavin Maginness at a Tuesday meeting at Addington in November.
Cayford is also in the ownership of Tiz A Secret, the most successful trotting mare five years and over this season. She has won five races and $25,949 since joining the Scaife stable as a one-win trotter.
