Racing: Allpress nearing 100 wins

Trainer Michael Pitman is hoping to provide jockey Lisa Allpress with her 100th win for the season at Waimate tomorrow.

"Lisa has done a great job for me this season and I would like to to get her to the century on one of my team," Pitman said.

"She is coming down mainly to ride Jotilla in the Waimate Cup."

Allpress had ridden 98 winners at the end of racing yesterday. She has engagements at Hastings today. She has been engaged for other members of the Pitman stable - Coup Pentire, Miss Maximus, Ginger Crunch Coup, Trademark, Just Luce and Kenny Starfighter.

Allpress rode the stable star, Coup Align, in four wins, including the Stewards' and Pegasus Handicaps at Riccarton and Hazlett Stakes at Wingatui from five starts this season.

Coup Align was spelled after the Hazlett in February. He has pleased Pitman in a fresh preparation aimed at a Melbourne spring campaign.

"He [Coup Align] is flying in his work," Pitman said.

Allpress rode Jotilla to win over 1400m on a heavy track at Riccarton on May 28. The Waimate Cup is over 1800m and the track is listed as dead.

The Umatilla gelding ran fifth in the race last year. Pitman, who has won three of the past five Waimate Cups, also has Fellini in the field. Fellini is the mount of Jamie Bates.

Race rival Under Parr finished second to Dream By Day in the race 12 months ago.

Opie Bosson is sharing the lead in the jockeys' premiership with James McDonald after a win at Hawera yesterday. Both riders have 145 wins.
