"It is probably of more significance to others but it does prove I haven't totally wasted my time," Parsons said.
He has also trained 57 standardbred winners in the 14 years he has held a licence for that code.
Parsons (61) had his first win as a trainer at Kumara in January, 1971 when in partnership with Harvey Rhodes.
The horse was Little Sue.
Parsons did not win another race for four years until Rosearna was successful.
Parsons has had his wife, Karen, as a training partner for the past 14 years.
The stable has won group one races with Diablo Girl and Seamist and major races with Megapins (Wellington Cup) and O'Cartier (Stewards Handicap).
He won a maiden race yesterday with Confused, owned by a Blenheim trio, Kevin Sowman, Bill Campbell and Donna Green.
Sowman has been a long-time stable client and he was in the ownership of Megapins.
Confused joined the Parsons stable at Balcairn three months ago after a change of ownership.
The 3yr-old was placed from the Wanganui stable of Kevin Myers.
- Sabin Kirkland said he would leave his options open with Eel Win after producing the rising 6yr-old for a fresh-up win yesterday.
Eel Win mastered 58kg over 1200m with a powerful late run from handy to the pace.
"I will see about a start in the Winter Cup, but if the track is too heavy I have the option of switching him to the open 1200m with an apprentice allowance," Kirkland said.
"It looks like he will go to Melbourne with Michael [Pitman] in the spring."
It was the 18th win for Eel Win from 61 starts.
The San Luis gelding, owned by Kirkland and his wife, Clare, has amassed $369,300 in stakes.
Eel Win has been trained at various times by Pitman.
"He did everything perfect and gave me a gem of a ride," said Robert Hannam, who was riding Eel Win for the first time.
Hannam said he would ride Faaltless in the Winter Cup.
The Palmerston North jockey is back at Oamaru on Sunday to ride Faaltless in his final lead-up race.
- Trainer Kerry King has classic aspirations with Royal Tap, winner of the 2yr-old race yesterday.
Royal Tap, who was having his first start, raced three-wide close to the lead and won by half a length despite a slipped saddle.
"He could be a Guineas and Derby horse," King said.
Royal Tap, who is close to 17 hands, is a gelding by Johar from the Zabeel mare Bobby Lee, who has left Tappy (nine wins) and Caw (five).
Royal Tap is raced by breeders Ian Taplin (partner of King) and his father Syd, of Te Awamutu.
Royal Tap would now be spelled.
King and Taplin have had a team based at Oamaru for winter racing.
- Trainer Daniel Champion rates Shamrox the best horse he has trained.
The 3yr-old filly won yesterday five months after she had been successful at her only other start.
"She is the best horse I have put a saddle on," Champion said.
He trained Gasnier, winner of the 2009 Riverton Cup.
Shamrox was spelled through shin soreness after a maiden win at Riccarton in February. She is raced by Simon Adlam, Jock Cockburn, Will Murney, Neville and Phil Prendergast, who have an association through the Celtic Football Club in Ashburton.
She is the first galloper raced by Adlam, the successful standardbred trainer.
He prepared Second Wind to win nine races including the Taylor Mile in Auckland from 16 starts this season.
Second Wind has been back in work 10 days.
He was spelled early in June.
Shamrox, bred by Edwina Morris and Alan Jones, of Greenpark, is by Pyrus from Broadgate, a Prized mare who died last year after leaving five foals.
- Jason Laking was fined $200 for failing to make the weight for Grand Rapids.
Daniel Bothamley was fined $150 for the same offence on Ian Charles and Flying Tui.
