Five horses to follow at Ascot Park Raceway tomorrow

Racing journalist Jonny Turner has delved into the form for tomorrow’s Northern Southland meeting and found five horses for harness racing fans to follow.

NUBLIAH CHAMAY

With this consistent mare, you know what you are going to get.

And that’s a good run for your money.

The Hampden mare usually puts herself right on the speed by making a good beginning, which has been evident in her last three starts where she has either been in the lead or in the trail.

Putting herself in that kind of spot will be crucial at Ascot Park and over 2200m tomorrow.

While she isn’t any kind of certainty, she is a great each-way prospect and one that must be considered in top-four combinations.

PARADISE VALLEY (race 4)

While she’s probably not the next coming of Blossom Lady, this mare has shown enough recently to be a major threat from barrier 1 in a field within her range.

Paradise Valley looks well placed from the ace draw after running handy races from much tougher barriers at the recent Cromwell meeting.

She has the early speed to make use of barrier 1, which should help driver Sarah O’Reilly put her in a sweet spot.

With her best game, Paradise Valley can deliver the first training win in the career of Mataura horsewoman Nicole Aitken.

FIERY BANDITO (race 6)

This classy horse may not be one for the punters to follow, given he is set to start at very short odds.

But any fan of the squaregaiter should enjoy seeing this promising horse in action tomorrow.

Fiery Bandito should be winning on what he has shown in his short career so far.

There is some risk about him — he’s hardly perfect and can make a mistake.

Though he has won on this track, all of his recent racing has been on larger circuits.

But if he can put it all together as he has done in two of his last three starts, he should put on a great show and take all sorts of holding out.

AROHA KENNY (race 8)

Her formline says Aroha Kenny must be rewarded soon for her brilliant recent consistency.

From the powerhouse trotting stable of Phil Williamson, the 4-year-old brings the best kind of Canterbury form to what looks like a winnable race.

In the process, Aroha Kenny hasn’t had everything her own way.

She sat parked in her last start while was disadvantaged by an early check in her prior outing.

With a good beginning and even luck, the very reliable mare looks a big hope of breaking through tomorrow.

JACCKA EVAN (race 5)

Debuting in the best company showed Jaccka Evan has all the talent needed to win a maiden race at short notice.

At Winton last month, the pacer began well from barrier 1 before running a meritorious race behind the multiple race-winner Built For Glory while beating home the talented Miraculous.

The pacer gets the same draw again, but this time he’s back in maiden company.

Expect Jaccka Evan to take up a handy spot and take plenty of catching for young reinsman Dan Anderson, who handled the pacer well in his debut.
