Abeautifulred, narrowly beaten by Planet Rock in the New Zealand One Thousand Guineas, warrants respect in the Eulogy Stakes at Awapuni tomorrow.
Abeautifulred and Dowager Queen give trainers Graham and Debbie Rogerson a strong hand in the Eulogy. Dowager Queen has been freshened since campaigning in Australia where she finished second in the VRC Oaks at Flemington and third in the Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.
Abeautifulred is the mount of Hayden Tinsley, who rode Planet Rock to win the Guineas.
Darryl Bradley has the mount on Dowager Queen.
Zurella, trained by Shaune Ritchie at Cambridge, will be ridden by Lisa Allpress. Zurella has won at Hastings and Te Rapa (1600m) at her last two starts.
• Jay Misbah has replaced suspended Shankar Muniandy on Danz A Rook, topweight in the open 2200m at Invercargill tomorrow.
Danz A Rook was a fast-finishing second in the Winton Cup (1600m) at her last start following a win in the Wyndham Cup (2000m).
• New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing has raised the minimum weight for the majority of races to 54kg from 53kg.
The 53kg minimum remains for premier meetings.
• Matthew Goodson has been reappointed chairman of the board of NZTR.
The appointment follows the annual meeting in Wellington on Tuesday.
• Trainer Brian Anderton said he would return Inferno to racing in a sprint at Riccarton today week.
The well-performed middle distance performer missed a race at Cromwell on November 27 after she knocked a front joint in a paddock incident.
She had resumed over 1400m at the New Zealand Cup meeting on November 9.
"I will give her a sprint at Riccarton and then go to the Timaru Cup (1600m) to build her up for more distance," Anderton said.
• The Kurow Jockey Club has announced that the leading trainer at the annual meeting of the club on December 30 will receive 100 bales of lucerne hay.
