Chelsea Faithful took her training career to another level when Ideal Crown dug in to win the group 3 Caduceus Club & Alabar Fillies Classic at Ascot Park on Saturday.

Both horse and trainer were having their first starts in group company and for Ideal Crown it was her first test of any kind under the pressures of raceday.

In a highly competitive feature event, Ideal Crown and Faithful produced the perfect result.

"It is unreal — it was sort of a dream and for it to come off is unreal," the trainer said.

"To do it with my first group race starter is even better.

"This filly has been an absolute beauty from the word go.

"I couldn’t be more proud of her."

A big group of happy owners met Faithful and their classy filly in the winner’s circle after their victory on Saturday.

The group is made up of many owners who have raced horses with Faithful in the past, plus some new faces.

"I bought her from the weanling sales and ended up syndicating her out," Faithful said.

"I had a few loyal owners who jumped in from old racehorses that decided to come in on a new one.

"And a few new owners came in as well," Faithful said.

"This is a great wee boost for them."

Faithful has taken a patient approach with Ideal Crown as she has built towards her first start.

The filly wasn’t rushed in any of her trials, the trainer and driver Craig Ferguson saving it until race day to unleash the filly’s full potential.

"Early on when I broke her in she was a wee bit hot.

"So I wanted to keep a lid on her a bit.

"I have been like that the whole way through with her.

"In her trials, we never pulled the plugs.

"But I brought her here [to Ascot Park] for a private run and Craig drove her and he pulled the plugs for the first time and she sprinted up nicely," she said.

Ferguson also handled Ideal Crown patiently early in Saturday’s feature as the three favourites, Bettor Belle, Princess Macandrew and Mamas Crunch, each took turns leading.

Last at the 400m, Ferguson picked a path along the inner for Ideal Crown, who dug in to score at the end of a stirring home-straight battle with runner-up Bettor Belle.

"At the 800m it didn’t look like the best of drives but things panned out," Ferguson said.

Bettor Belle lost no admirers when coming wide and only going down by a head in testing conditions.
