Otago Boys’ High School went close to toppling Auckland Grammar at the national under-15 rugby tournament in Auckland, going down 15-12 to its northern rival.
Otago Boys’ had some late opportunities to secure the win, but was not able to get the ball over the line.
The side will play Christchurch Boys’ High School today in the playoff for third.
The spoils from the South Island invitational under-15 rugby tournament will head north after Nelson College edged past Waitaki Boys’ High School 15-13 in the final. Host King’s High School finished third after beating Southland Boys’ 34-7.
St Andrew’s College won the final of the girls’ football tournament at Logan Park, beating Middleton Grange 4-0. Papanui High School took third with an 8-0 win over Wakatipu High School.
In the Rankin Cup/India Shield hockey tournament in Wellington, King’s High School lost its second playoff game against Rangitoto College 2-0 and will play Wellington College today in the fifth to eighth playoff.
