Wanaka athlete Dougal Allan's record at the Lake Dunstan Triathlon has survived - but not by much.
Allan did not return to defend the record of 53min 20sec he set last year, leaving it open for the taking.
Adam Wilson got close yesterday, finishing in 54min 31sec and winning both the overall and open men's categories of the 300m swim, 22.4km road cycle and 5.8km run event.
Tamsyn Hayes won the open women's category in 1hr 1min 11sec.
Timekeeper Barbara Emmitt said the race yesterday was held in good conditions and there were no issues with the course.
A slight breeze and broken cloud cover kept temperatures down during the race. It was a little rough on the lake for kayakers taking part in the kayak-bike-run version of the triathlon.
Numbers were slightly down on last year, with about 120 people taking part as individuals and as teams.
One couple and their son who were taking part were from Scotland, in New Zealand on holiday.
A large number of the other competitors were visitors to the region, at whom the race was targeted.
The race was a part of the Cromwell Summer Series, which began on Labour Weekend with the Cromwell half-marathon.
Next up is the 17th annual Lake Dunstan Cycle Challenge, a bike race around the lake on January 11.
