New Zealand snowboarder Rebecca Torr was the top female qualifier after the first day of slopestyle competition at the Burton Open at Cardrona Alpine Resort, yesterday.
Torr was joined by Auckland snowboarder James Hamilton as the only New Zealanders to progress to the next round of slopestyle competition, scheduled for tomorrow morning.
Hamilton, a half-pipe specialist, finished as the 13th-placed qualifier and joined 15 other male qualifiers progressing who will compete with invited riders at tomorrow's semifinals.
United States rider Benjamin Farrow claimed the top qualifier's spot with a second run score of 89.67 points, followed by Jamie Nicholls, of Great Britain, with 89.33 points, and Sam Hulbert, of the United States, with 87.67 points.
Torr's score of 76.33 was enough to comfortably see off second-placed Rana Okada, of Japan, (74.17pts) and Danielle Adams, of the US, (73.67pts) in the women's slopestyle.
Five female qualifiers go through to join the elite invited riders, who include top New Zealand hope Shelly Gotlieb, of Queenstown.
