The weather has thrown potential buyers of the Cardrona Alpine Resort a nice little bonus.
As well as becoming the proud new owners of chairlifts and base buildings, they will be handed a thick blanket of snow.
The skifield is due to change hands before the opening of its season on June 21 and over the weekend a cold southerly has set it up for a flying start.
Marketing manager Nadia Ellis said yesterday the field had 60cm of snow at the top and 30cm at the base, with drifts of up to 1.5m.
Southern tourism company Real Journeys announced last week it was the preferred bidder for the resort but was still working through the process of due diligence and shareholder approval.
The skifield is being sold by the Veall family of Melbourne.
Cardrona general manager Duncan Veall was in Wanaka yesterday and would say only he was ''busy getting things going''.
The skifield business produced a net profit of $5.7 million in the six months to December 31, 2012, and has a book value of $40.93 million.
Wanaka's other skifield, Treble Cone, opens on June 27 and reported 25cm of new snow at the top of the mountain and 2cm at the base over the weekend.
