Manser fronts Wakatipu charge for medals

Charlie Manser started things off.

The Wakatipu rower got his school on the podium from the opening A final, and the medals just kept coming on the penultimate day of Maadi Cup.

Manser won silver in the boys’ under-17 single sculls with a time of 7min 54.32sec at Lake Karapiro yesterday.

From there, Manser joined Max Davis to win gold in the boys’ under-17 double sculls in a blistering time of 6min 59.33sec.

Manser and Davis joined crew mates Sebastian Watson, Harry Lightfoot and Cameron Hall to again grace the top of the podium, winning gold in the boys’ under-18 coxed quad sculls in 6min 25.12sec.

It was a commanding performance from the quad, who were nearly three boat lengths ahead of their closest opponents.

The Queenstown school was not done there.

Caitlyn Julian, Keira Lightfoot, Scarlett Cavanagh, Cinnamon Williams, Liberty Hide, Annie Clark, Mimi Blundell, Jesse Bates and Bella Noton picked up bronze in the girls’ under-15 coxed octuple sculls.

They finished in 7min 22.21sec to cap off a brilliant day for Wakatipu on the water.

Neighbours Dunstan also won gold when Ruby Smith, Bella Breen, Drew Thomas, Charlotte Crosbie and Milla Okane stormed home to win the girls’ under-17 coxed quad sculls in 7min 33.30sec.

Otago Boys’ also had a golden day out.

Ollie Scott, Tom Collie, Logan Millar, Leo Garden and Hunter Ruxton were crowned champions in the boys’ under-16 coxed quad sculls in a time of 6min 45.60sec.

They finished six seconds ahead of St Kentigern College, who won silver.

Columba also collected two podium finishes yesterday.

Nova Whiston, Anika Leyser, Isla Nicholson, Georgia Drummond, Kate Baskerville picked up silver in the girls’ under-17 coxed four with a time of 7min 49.71sec.

Baskerville was also the cox for the crew of Lucy Earl, Devon Skevington, Charlotte Scott and Isla Peddie who won bronze in the girls’ under-15 coxed four with a time of 7min 46.81sec.

Otago athletes will be back in the boat today to wrap up Maadi Cup with the last of the A and B grade finals.
