Tomorrow night's milestone has sneaked up on Te Paea Selby-Rickit.

The Steel goal attack did not know the game against the Mainland Tactix in Christchurch would be her 50th until she received a text informing her that was the case.

That has not dampened her excitement at the prospect of reaching the half-century though.

``It's quite exciting,'' she said.

``I've been part of the team for a few years now.

``I obviously started when I was really young and have grown and spent a lot of time as being part of the Steel.

``So it's something that I'm proud of to reach 50 games.''

At just 25 years old, Selby-Rickit has done much in a young career. Since making her debut against the Mystics in 2011 to cover a sick Daneka Wipiiti, she has emerged as one of the country's best goal attacks and debuted for the Silver Ferns last year.

``I remember being really young and really nervous,'' she said of her Steel debut.

``But it's been a long time since then so to finally reach 50, it's been quite exciting.

``I've been in a team with some really great shooters and I've learnt off each of them throughout the years.''

Last year was a memorable year, as the team dominated the regular season, finishing unbeaten and on top of the table.

``For the first few years, I was really young and I was just there to learn and gain some experience from the older girls.

``But in the last couple of years consistently being out on court has been pretty good.

``I think last year finally putting together the stuff we've been building on for the last few years and getting wins on the board was really exciting.

``One memorable game was when we played the Swifts last year and drew against them.

``That was a really tough, but awesome, game.

``It was such a cool game to be a part of. It was a real nail-biter.''

Originally from Otaki, Selby-Rickit came south in 2010 for university.

She soon realised the netball culture was something she wanted to be a part of and has liked it so much she made it a second home.

``I suppose I've just got friends down here and sort of built a network down here over the last few years.

``It's sort of home for me now, even though up north will always be home.

``I've made a life down here and really enjoy being part of the Steel.

``Playing for the same franchise is something I'm passionate about and the Steel is definitely one of the big reasons I'm still down here after seven years.''

With plenty of years left in her, Selby-Rickit has a chance to play 100 games for the Steel, something only Wendy Frew has done.

Her sister and Steel team-mate, Te Huinga Reo Selby-Rickit, recently brought up 100 top-level games, although that included a stint at the Central Pulse.

Selby-Rickit said matching that, but doing it all the with the Steel, would be awesome and something to strive for.

For now though she was only worried about the Tactix, a fit team yet to win a game.

Selby-Rickit expected the side to come out firing and said the Steel would not take them lightly.
