Netball: Southern A too pacy, classy for Phys Ed A

Southern A had a comfortable 52-39 victory over Phys Ed A in the Dunedin premier club competition at the weekend.

With talented midcourter Camilla Lees back from duty with the Central Pulse in the ANZ Championship, Southern A had too much pace and class for its rival.

Lees and Hayley Saunders combined beautifully in the centre court and helped Southern get off to a blistering start.

Imposing defender Jess Moulds was solid at the back for Phys Ed A as her side clawed its way back into the match with a solid third quarter.

But Southern finished strongly to win by 13 goals.

Tactix and former Silver Ferns shooter Jodi Brown also returned from ANZ Championship duty to help University-Albion cruise to a 58-31 win over Phys Ed B in a scrappy game.

In the game of the round, University-Albion B beat Southern B 51-46.

It was an intense and spirited game with the newly promoted University-Albion B out to prove a point.

University built a substantial lead of 10 goals but had to hang on as Southern B rallied towards the end.

Defender Grace Power was impressive and midcourter Marise Stewart also played well for University.

For Southern B, shooter Stephanie Brenssell and midcourter Carla Hohepa shone.
