If you want police attention, it appears doing something naked will attract it — quite quickly.
Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said Queenstown police were called by members of the public about a naked man driving slowly and erratically in Morven Ferry Rd, near the intersection with State Highway 6, at 1.25pm on Thursday.
He had earlier been seen hitting golf balls with a golf club into the nearby Arrow River, before getting into his car.
Snr Sgt Bond said the 60-year-old man was stopped by police about 20 minutes later, in his car, still starkers.
Queenstown police spoke to the man and urged him to put his clothes back on, which he did without incident.
There is no law prohibiting naked driving, but Snr Sgt Bond said there was definitely a time and place for it.
Police did not believe the man was intoxicated at the time, so he did not undergo a breath alcohol test.
While it was not known for certain why he was going about his activities in the nude, police said the man claimed to be a sovereign citizen, operating under Māori law.
