Netball: Phys Ed A too strong for B team

Phys Ed A piled on the defensive pressure to beat club rival Phys Ed B 56-37 in the Dunedin premier A tournament on Saturday.

New Zealand under-21 defender Jess Moulds underlined her class with an impressive performance.

The lanky goal keep snuffed out some promising play by the B team with an equal measure of resolute defence and vision.

She and wing defence Danielle Calnan picked up plenty of ball.

Despite close attention from Moulds, Phys Ed B's shooters acquitted themselves well.

Nicole Bourke landed 23 from 39 and Ashley Hutton 12 from 21.

Clair Adams led the way for the A side with 22 from 27 and Kate Parsons 15 from 22.

Olivia Bates made the most of her opportunity scoring 13 from 16.

It was Phys Ed B's first match in the premier A tournament this year after Phys Ed C stepped aside.

While the A side was just that little bit sharper all around the court, the B team showed enough to suggest it will be competitive in the top grade.

In the other match University-Albion annihilated College 73-26.

College looked a shadow of the side that played so well in Thursday night's promotion-relegation match against Macandrew A.
