There is no new news. And that is bad news when you are trying to put a playing roster together.
It is fair to say the Steel has been a little media-shy recently.
Recruitment has not been going well, with Silver Ferns shooter Paula Griffin the latest player to defect.
Griffin will join foundation Steel player Te Huinga Reo Selby-Rickit and long serving-coach Robyn Broughton at the Wellington-based Pulse next year.
Classy Silver Ferns defender Leana de Bruin's services have also been lost, as the goal keep will return to the Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic.
There could be more bad news to come, with Liana Leota considering taking a year off. The Silver Ferns wing attack has also been linked with a move to the Pulse.
There has been precious little to soften the blow for fans. As it stands, the Steel has three confirmed players for 2012.
Midcourter Wendy Frew and back-up wing defence Hayley Saunders will return for another season, and former Silver Fern Jodi Brown has inked a deal.
Steel chief executive Julie Paterson acknowledged Griffin's departure had come as a shock.
"I was very surprised and quite disappointed to be quite frank," Paterson said.
The franchise had no idea Griffin was considering a move until about a week ago.
"She said to us that she always intended to go back to the Pulse at some point. It worked better for her from a study and lifestyle perspective, being based in Wellington.
"We thought that Paula and Jodi would have been a really good shooting combination and I think Paula is a fantastic goal shoot. She started to come into herself this season and we had no indication from Paula that she wasn't intending to play for us."
As for whether Leota returns, the ball, it seems, is in her court.
"We've indicated to her that we are interested in her returning but I understand that she is still working through what her plans are for the future."
Despite the Steel losing three of its starting seven, Paterson remains confident the franchise will put together a competitive team.
"It is a blow but I'm still feeling optimistic. We knew having new coaches was going to unsettle players. We were aware that was the environment we would be working in but we also wanted to make changes.
"We wanted to change the look and feel of our team. We were really wanting to go for fresh and young and exciting.
"That is our intent. We have a three-year plan and we are working towards that. We don't expect to be a winning team every year for the next three years but we expect to build a winning team."
Do not be surprised if a significant core of the New Zealand under-21 squad, including the likes of Sulu Tone-Fitzpatrick, Kayla Cullen and Shannon Francois, are eventually contracted.
Paterson moved to dampen expectations Australian Mo'onia Gerrard might turn out for the Steel next season.
Gerrard told the Herald on Sunday she was interested in playing for a New Zealand team.
However, it may just be posturing as Paterson says the Steel has not spoken to the athletic defender.
The franchise was looking at different import options but will not fill the slot until it becomes clearer where the greatest need will be.
Steel fans can expect some positive announcements this week, with Paterson indicating the franchise was close to closing some deals.
