Brandon Hodgson (Otago) was a casualty of the cut-throat 18-hole qualifying but, with sub-par golf, he swept aside his opponents to win the second tier event.
He has been named at No1 and as captain of the first Otago men's golf team to be selected this year.
Ryan Bellamy (St Clair) is at No2 after showing good form, despite having exited the match play second tier event in the semifinal to Hodgson, who was five under the card.
Callum Judkins (Wakatipu Junior) is the highest placed junior and is rewarded after winning the championship at North Otago last weekend.
He showed maturity and was not troubled after finding himself four down after five holes and fought his way back playing the next 13 holes three under par to beat Jonny Mackay (Lower Waitaki).
New Zealand left-handed champion Ben Patston (Otago) is at No4 while Mackay takes the next berth after winning his first two championship games last weekend.
After living in Christchurch for several years, Phil Bungard is back at North Otago and top-qualified with a two under par 70 on Saturday morning.
He will play at No6, while solid trial form by Kyle Clark (Cromwell) gives him a start at No7.
Former eight man representative Sungwoo Han (Queenstown) returns to the fold at No8 while Jack Turner (Wakatipu Junior) and Cody McMullan (St Clair) take the final two places.
The players will have to perform well this weekend as three well-performed golfers, Duncan Croudis, Scott Hellier and Inia Logan, are unavailable for this fixture but remain in contention for the final quintet.
Southland junior golf has been in the doldrums in recent years and the under-19 event is likely to be played off handicap.
The selectors have used this event to provide some competitive golf for two under-19 and two under-16 players who will travel to Cambridge for the National Junior Interprovincial teams event at the end of this month.
