Campbell finished fourth at the Saudi International tournament in Riyadh at the weekend, missing a dramatic three-way playoff by a single shot.
It meant the Queenstown golfer finished third on the Asian Tour’s International Series rankings.
The series winner, Chilean golfer Joaquin Niemann, earns a card on the LIV tour, while Campbell and others will get entry to the second round of the LIV qualifying event, also in Riyadh, this weekend, at which three more cards are up for grabs.
Campbell closed with a 64 at the Saudi International to finish the tournament at 20-under, one shot behind leaders Niemann, Cameron Smith and Caleb Surratt.
It left the International Series Morocco champion just 40 points off top spot in the overall rankings after a memorable campaign that brought five top-10 finishes and the win in Rabat.
"It was close. Obviously disappointing," Campbell said.
"It always comes down to a few of those putts at the end of the year or those shots. It is what it is, and you can’t do much about it.
"Golf’s a pretty cruel game sometimes — sometimes it comes off and sometimes it doesn’t. The difference between a great round and a good round can be millimetres."
Campbell opened the Saudi tournament with back-to-back rounds of 3-under-par 68 before storming into contention with two 64s after the cut.
"The first round I played really well, then had a bad finish second round.
"Today I played really well. The putter went cold in the middle of the round and then I holed a couple coming in, so it was close, wasn’t far away."
Niemann completed arguably the finest season of his career after winning the US$5 million Saudi International.
The Chilean made a brilliant birdie, off the back of an exquisite lob shot to a foot, on the second playoff hole, after both Smith and Surratt missed theirs from close range.
Niemann actually won twice on the LIV circuit this season and finished runner-up to Jon Rahm in the series standings, so the golden ticket perhaps did not mean as much to him as it would have to Campbell.
The Kiwi, who was a regular LIV reserve and tasted action in a couple of tournaments this year, will still be a strong contender to gain one of the three cards available at the qualifying event this weekend.
