Otago has been languishing at the bottom of the national women's tournament for the past four years and this move is an attempt to change the team's fortunes.
"We have nothing to lose by backing youth this year, as we cannot do any worse than in recent years," Otago manager and selector Dianne Gillett said.
Monica Tulisi (Otago) will play at the No 1 position in her first year out of school, while Wakatipu High School pupil Shani Arona will be at No 2.
The final two players also attend school, with Riho Kanazawa coming from the Cromwell College Golf Academy.
Kanazawa was named at No 4 after showing good form in the quadrangular tournament at Waimate last weekend.
St Hildas Collegiate School pupil Laura Hoskin (Arrowtown) will make her debut at this level at No 5 - and will get to play alongside one of her teachers.
Hoskin (14), the daughter of former Otago cricketer Richard Hoskin, is one of the youngest players to be selected for this event, joining the illustrious company of Otago Golf Club professional Shelley Duncan and Melanie Harper (Otago).
In a nice twist, Hoskin will compete on equal terms with St Hildas head of physical education and health Kathryn Fletcher (Otago), playing at No 3.
The youngest Otago team will not be without some experience, with manager Gillett and travelling reserve Liz McRae (Wanaka) in support at The Grange.
Gillett and McRae have attended countless national tournaments and have a wealth of experience.
The team is (in playing order): Monica Tulisi (Otago), Shani Arona (Arrowtown), Kathryn Fletcher (Otago), Riho Kanazawa (Cromwell), Laura Hoskin (Arrowtown). Travelling reserve: Liz McRae (Wanaka). Manager: Dianne Gillett (Otago).
