Otago went down to Southland by 2 to 3 in the morning and lost to North Harbour by 1 to 4 in the afternoon.
Southland always looked in control, with the middle order of Glenn Sutherland, Ewan Clark and left-handed Paul Adams winning by handsome margins.
Sutherland handled the windy conditions well to beat Ken Shaw by 5 and 4, while Clark was always in control, beating Greg Johnson by 3 and 2.
But it was Adams who put Southland in the driving seat, winning over John Cunningham in 12 holes.
Otago No 1 Gary Creedy beat Gary Radka in six holes, despite Radka making two eagles on the homeward nine.
Stephen Hitchcox (No 5) also played well, turning four up with two birdies on the outward nine and parred in to beat Jeff Mowat.
Otago's only winner in the afternoon was No 2 Ken Shaw, who started strongly, beating North Harbour's Mike Leeper in 14 holes.
But the remaining Otago players all lost, with Creedy going down to former international Phil Mosley, while Johnson lost to the highly rated Tony Treen on the final green.
Cunningham was never in the match, losing by a large margin, while Hitchcox made a poor start to the homeward nine which cost him the match.
Otago needs to perform well in the final rounds today against Hawkes Bay in the morning and Waikato this afternoon.
