The top Taieri quartet won the Otago district final of the national interclub event by a single stroke from Chisholm Park in the 18 hole event which was played at Taieri yesterday.
The win qualifies the Taieri team of Mark Andrews, Shennan Reid, Russell Newman and Ken Shaw to play in the Lower South Island play-off against the Otatara team from Southland and the Gleniti team from Aorangi.
That play-off is scheduled to be over 36 holes on the Cromwell golf course on April 4.
Taieri's win was set up by Reid who went out in 33 and played par golf on the homeward nine for 70, the lowest score of the day.
Taieri's other two counting scores were 77 shot by Andrews and Newman.
Sean Geary (Chisholm Park) posted a par 72 to lift his team into second place only one shot behind the Taieri quartet.
The placings were almost an exact reversal of last year's metropolitan pennant placings, with Otago finishing third, and the usually successful St Clair team in last place.
