Vaughan McCall (Gore) finished strongly to beat Tyrone Ratahi (Otago) on the 16th green to win the Otago schoolboys championship at Cromwell yesterday.
Thomas Gillan (Arrowtown) won the senior plate, Jeremy Green (Aorangi) the senior B championship and Thomas Facer (Otago) the senior B plate.
Two of the three matches went to play-off as did the girls final, with honours going to Katherine Goodwin (Southland) on the 20th hole.
The championship final was evenly poised on the front nine until McCall won the sixth and seventh holes to take a two-shot lead.
Ratahi chipped in for a birdie three on the ninth to trail by one and evened the score on the 10th when McCall made a bogey.
Ratahi took the lead for the first time with a par three on the difficult 12th hole.
However, this was the spur to get McCall going and he won the next four holes, two with birdies, to claim the title.
