The win gives the Otago club team three points, two for the win over Taieri and a bonus point for winning while playing away from home.
This puts Otago in striking distance of leader St Clair which remains favourite to defend the title it won last year.
Otago must win all of its remaining games, including beating St Clair at St Clair in the final round, to have any chance of taking the series.
This match was the only one played as continued rain closed the St Clair course, leaving St Clair to play North Otago at a later date.
The match between South Otago and Chisholm Park was postponed because of a Balclutha Open tournament leaving the southern golfers with a plethora of catch-up games in the coming weeks.
The match on Saturday was always close and Daniel Elder (Otago) sank a 3m putt on the 17th green to halve with Taieri No 3 Mark Andrews which proved to be the difference between the two teams.
Both teams listed interesting team orders for the contest and Taieri dominated the top matches with wins to Russell Newman and Ben Clutterbuck.
Newman made a strong finish, winning two of the final three holes to beat Simon Gallie with one hole to spare.
But the Otago middle order rose to the occasion with Michael Smith beating masters (over-40) golfer Ken Shaw on the 14th green.
Cameron Beel beat Brian Shaw 2 and 1 while the under-rated Murray Edgar downed Blair Bennett in 16 holes.
Despite the very heavy conditions, Smith, Beel and Dean Outram (Taieri No 7) all posted sub-par rounds.
