Golf: Otago club proves too strong in final

The Otago Golf Club team of Duncan Croudis, James Ayling and Chris Marslin finished with 88 gross stableford points to win the Otago Champion of Champions final over 18 holes in North Otago on Sunday.

The Balmacewen trio finished seven points ahead of Taieri, with North Otago and St Clair finishing in a tie for third, two points further back.

Croudis (17) scored a one-under-par 71 to help his team to victory. He was ably supported by the club's intermediate champion Ayling (26) and junior champion Marslin (25).

Croudis shared the best individual score of 37 with masters golfer John Cunningham (North Otago) and St Clair greenkeeper Andrew Hobbs.

The Otago Club also dominated the handicap section, with Marslin joining Croudis on 37 points while Ayling played to his handicap with 36 points. Toko and Roxburgh tied for second four points behind.
