With rounds of 72, 67 and 67, Vaughan McCall (Gore) added the South Island Under-19 title to his recent string of wins, finishing 10-under-par on the Levels course in Timaru over the past three days.
McCall nearly missed his final-round tee time, avoiding disqualification by less than a minute.
The Otago matchplay champion finished 10 shots ahead of Duncan Croudis (Otago).
Many of the 75 juniors had some difficulty on the recently-cored greens but McCall oozed confidence during the final two rounds.
Cameron Jones (North Shore) was playing with McCall and looked set to match him for overall honours with four holes to play.
Jones dropped several shots on the final holes but still won the under-17 section, six shots ahead of Tim Leonard (Timaru) who finished 1-over-par for the three rounds.
Jae Hak Lee (Coringa) claimed the under-15 title by three shots from Ryan Chisnall (Greenacres).
There were only three entrants in the under-13 event with Connell Kilpatrick (Russley) and Sangwoo Han (Queenstown) finishing tied on 269.
Kilpatrick won a sudden death play-off.
• New Zealand bounced back yesterday with a strong performance although Australia has taken a firm grip on the Southern Cross Cup international quadrangular at Wairakei International, near Taupo, NZPA reports.
New Zealand, beaten by defending champion Argentina on Thursday, shared a 3-3 rubber against South Africa in the second round yesterday.
Australia blitzed Argentina 5-1 and takes on New Zealand in the deciding clash today.
New Zealand cannot win the tournament but could still spoil Australia's attempt on a fourth Southern Cross Cup victory.
